Why frontier AI has to run on the hardware people own
Frontier capability matters most when regular people can use it without surrendering their work, context or control to a remote service.
The most capable AI should not be reserved for organisations that can buy a datacentre or rent one indefinitely. Regular end users need systems they can operate, inspect and stop on hardware they own.
Ownership changes the product
- Private material can remain local.
- The user controls availability, upgrades and cost.
- Research can begin from real resource limits rather than assuming them away.
